New Releases: June 2012

June Releases are almost here already! There are quite a few books that I'm looking forward to reading this month. As always, I will highlight only a few from my list.

These are books that I can't wait to read!

Title: Redshirts: A Novel with Three Codas by John Scalzi
Release Date: June 5, 2012
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. It’s a prestige posting, and Andrew is thrilled all the more to be assigned to the ship’s Xenobiology laboratory.

Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the fact that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces, (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations, and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Not surprisingly, a great deal of energy below decks is expended on avoiding, at all costs, being assigned to an Away Mission. Then Andrew stumbles on information that completely transforms his and his colleagues’ understanding of what the starship Intrepid really is…and offers them a crazy, high-risk chance to save their own lives.

At sea in an industrial world of sabotage and union agitation, Alex meets Polly Gowan, daughter of a famed union leader, who hopes to seize a mysterious saboteur without involving the police.

Because a sympathetic mill master would aid her cause, Polly becomes Alex’s guide to urban Scotland. From soccer games to pub brawls, Alex sees another side of life, and feels free for the first time to reveal the man—vital and strong—behind his intellectual exterior. Polly is utterly seduced. Their ambitions, however, remain at odds: Alex vows to earn the mill bonus to save his child, while Polly fights for the needs of her people. Is there strength enough in their sparkling passion to bind them together in their quests— and in a lasting love that conquers all?

Title: At Last (Lucky Harbor) by Jill Shalvis
Release Date: June 26, 2012
HER LOVE HAS COME ALONG . . .
Amy Michaels loves her new life in Lucky Harbor. A waitress in the local diner, she's looking forward to her first weekend hike through the mountains. But when a wrong turn takes her off the trail, she finds herself up close and personal with forest ranger Matt Bowers. And even though she's tempted to kiss that sexy smile right off his face, she won't make the mistake of getting involved with the town heartthrob.

A former cop whose life went south, Matt doesn't let anyone get too close. But something about the feisty beauty caught his eye the moment he first saw her in the diner. After a hot night under a starry sky, Matt can't deny their attraction-or the fact that for the first time in a long time, he feels the stirrings of something more. Now it's up to Matt to help Amy see that, no matter what is in their past, together they can build a future in Lucky Harbor.
❖❖❖❖❖❖

I enjoyed Scalzi's work at the beginning of the year and frankly Redshirts just looks fun! Also, I read Dark and Stormy Knights edited by P.N. Elrod in 2010 and it turned out to be pretty solid, so there's an anthology I don't want to miss.

Do you know what's interesting besides the fact that the rest these books are releasing on the same date? Chase, Hoyt, Lofty, Corey, and Shalvis wrote some of my favorite books last year and most were from these same series. It is going to be tough choosing which book to read first. It looks like my end-of-month reading schedule will be busy, busy, busy. :)

What about you? What books are you looking forward to reading in June?

    1. I know! Have you noticed that most of them are going to be released at the end of the month? I can't believe how all release dates for these books are always bunched up like that! It gets tough to choose for me... let's see which one catches my interest first. LOL!

  2. How fun that some of your very favorite authors from 2011 are releasing books around the same time this year! I'm curious to see which one you pick first. Perhaps the Lofty one since you recently read the novella? Oh but I am eyeing the Chase one. I absolutely ADORED Silk is for Seduction.

I only read the first Maiden Lane book a month or two ago for the TBR Challenge.. but this 4th one sounds really fascinating. I suppose I should read book 2 and 3 first.. especially to get more info on the Ghost story that has been building up in the series. . . I need 30 hour days. *sigh*

    1. Hi Christine!

I do wish these releases would be spaced out during the year, then I could savor one favorite series (author) at a time. But, hey! I'm just happy the books are finally here. As you say, 30 hour days needed.

I agree about the Chase! I loved, loved, loved that book too. For you, the Maiden Lane series can definitely wait, definitely read the other two books first... for me? No way! That's one of my favorite historical romance series at the moment, and I'm anxiously waiting for this book. (I already read the Lofty, review to come) *g*

  4. I am eyeing REDSHIRTS too, but it's only out in the UK in November. And I may wait for the mmp, to be honest. I've started reading HEX APPEAL - there was one story I just could not get into, but the rest have been pretty good so far.

    1. Oh, that's a really late release for Redshirts in the UK! I purchased the Kindle edition instead of print for this one. If I absolutely love it, I will get the MMP, otherwise it will stay in my Kindle. :) Thanks for the heads up on Hex Appeal, I haven't started on that one yet, but now I'm really looking forward to reading it!

    1. Leslie, I'm so glad you're going to give this one a chance! All I can think of is Star Trek and all those red shirt crew members biting the dust whenever they were included in a landing party. LOL! I hope you and your DH enjoy it. :)

  6. Some very nice releases coming out :) Lots of historical romances... just a bit annoyed that they are all coming out at the end of the month. Ugh! I wonder what is Ms Andrews' entry about in the anthology. I didn't hear that it was the Kate Daniels series :( Need to find out what it's about.

Let us know how the Carrie Lofty!

    1. I'm excited about all the great releases, Nath, but as you say... all of them at the same time! We'll just have to become reading machines. LOL!

The Andrews' short story is set in Kate Daniel's world, but it's not in Atlanta and they are featuring a new character. I just began reading it and it looks interesting. :) I will definitely let you know about the Lofty! :)
