The 'In Death' Reading Challenge is hosted by our own Christine from The happily ever after...
I was a bit reluctant to join this Challenge. I've avoided reading J.D. Robb for years! You see I've been a Nora Roberts fan for years, but I've always been a bit intimidated by the extensive backlist, and frankly there are other concerns. I'm afraid that because I love Roberts' writing I'll become obsessed with this series and won't be able to stop reading it -- and there are ALL those books to read! When would I stop?! Could I stop myself?! Or would I spend the rest of the year hunting used book stores, libraries and/or book stores trying to find the whole series? We'll see... we'll just have to see... I can become obsessive when it comes to reading the next book, and the next, and the next...
The bottom line is that it is high time I read this much acclaimed series. I have to start somewhere. I already have the first 5 books in my TBR pile and I'm ready to begin. I'll be starting at the beginning, so I have a long way to go.

Yay! I'm so excited to do this challenge with you. I even modified the rules so reviews and commentary are optional. Of course I love reading what people have to say, but I want to spare people (like me!) any stress. ;)

ReplyDeleteHa. I understand you SO well... I've had that same concern several times when starting a series. I'm sorry to tell you my worries were justified with that series: I did end up hunting bookstores and buying every installment I could get my hands on, even though my library had every single one of them, and in English to boot. However, I'd tell you it warrants it. It's an excellent series, way better than anything I've read of Roberts under her own name. Eve and Roarke are terrific characters. I got my mother addicted to them too, although she reads the French translation and they've renamed Roarke "Connors" in it. Connors. *snort* Pah. It totally lacks the raw appeal that "Roarke" has.
Oh, Mary... see I knew it! Now I'm really scared. I'm unstoppable when I get obsessed. ;P But if it's worth it at least I'm ready for it. Connors? LOL, I wonder why they changed the name.
