These are two very different books! Range of Ghosts is Elizabeth Bear's latest release and the first book in her latest fantasy series Eternal Sky. I'm loving her world building so far, but I'm not far into the book so I can't tell you much about the characters yet.
The same goes for The Seduction of Phaeton Black by Jillian Stone. This is more of a Victorian noir, paranormal romance. The beginning of the book is quite erotic, so I'm expecting the steam level to be on the high end of the scale. That first chapter kept me reading and Phaeton Black is certainly a character! Let's see how it turns out.
That's it for my April reads. May looks like it's going to be a great reading month too... I'm looking forward to reading quite a few new releases. How about you? How did your April turn out?
I'm reading Naked Angel right now - and totally sucked into the soap opera shenanigans yet again. Seriously, it's like a prime-time soap with more explicit sexy-times.....
ReplyDeleteI know, I know! That's exactly what it is, an erotic soap opera... I got so sucked into this book that I finished it in one day! Now I have to go back and read the first book because I got into the whole thing with the second book. *g* Enjoy the drama. ;P

ReplyDeleteI'm loving that Elizabeth Bear cover--wow so mesmerizing! That one's part of a series, right? I've got to get my head straight with her works. I really want to try something by her.
Did you read the first book in that series by Jillian Stone? I have it on my tbr list but haven't bought it or found it at the library yet. Sounds really fun.. I didn't realize it was so sexy!
OH! I looked it up and am so psyched to learn that Range of Ghosts is book #1 in a new series by Bear! I And it has pretty darned good reviews on goodreads, too! I've added it to my list!

DeleteOhhh, I love the cover for Range of Ghosts too! I think it's gorgeous and I love the colors. You SHOULD try something by Bear, I love her work. So creative. This is a brand new fantasy series, so yes this is book #1. She usually works in trilogies, so that works really well for me too. I'm loving her world building (as always), but this one is set in a magical Genghis Khan sort of world that has me as mesmerized as that cover.
I've not read the first book (?), is there a first book?, for the Jillian Stone series. I need to do some homework there, but I usually do that AFTER I read the book so it doesn't influence my impressions while I'm reading it. LOL!

DeleteI came back to correct myself. The Seduction of Phaeton Black is book #1 in a new series by Jillian Stone. I thought it was book #2 in her historical mystery romance series. Oy. Can't remember the name.. the first book is something or other of Mr. Kennedy. Too lazy to click away to get the title. Sorry. I'm pathetic.

Nath, once I beat the reading slump I was up and running. It was a good thing too because I needed the relaxation time here and there. I think what saved me was that I found some books that I wanted to read. :)
DeleteJust Down the Road is one of the first books I read in April, and yet because I didn't review it immediately it fell through the cracks. I better get to it.
The Elizabeth Bear book is a fantasy. The setting? Well it seems to be modeled after Genghis Khan's world, but with magic, assassins, and female wizzards. Three different kingdoms, war, and well... romance I think. I'm not far into the book at this point and am staying away from reviews or spoilers.
I know you say on my blog that the Elizabeth Bear's new world has a lot of Asian influences, but it sounds pretty good and I'm curious :P
DeleteWell Nath, I'm almost done and can tell you that the world building is awesome in my opinion. You can't go wrong by reading it. It's Middle-Eastern and Asian-based. I'm really enjoying it. :)
