This 'n That

It's Good Friday and I'm home today. Hope all those who celebrate Easter have a great weekend planned with their families. The same goes for all my friends who are celebrating Passover this week.

Today, April 22nd, is also Earth Day. It marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Environmental issues are important to me personally on a day to day basis, but this date reminds us all of its global importance.

From earthday.org
"The fight for a clean environment continues in a climate of increasing urgency, as the ravages of climate change become more manifest every day. We invite you to be a part of Earth Day and help write many more victories and successes into our history. Discover energy you didn't even know you had. Feel it rumble through the grassroots under your feet and the technology at your fingertips. Channel it into building a clean, healthy, diverse world for generations to come."

Moving on to the "bookish," I would like to give a shout out to an old friend who just joined the blogosphere. My friend Indigene has finally decided to move the contents of her prolific and popular Life Journal to her brand new LGBT blog, Indie Reviews.

Indigene is not new to reviewing, as a matter of fact she's a veteran and if you read LGBT you've probably read her insightful, thorough, and beautifully written reviews at the Rainbow Reviews site or at Three Dollar Bill Reviews, that is if you haven't visited her LJ. So go on over and check out Indigene's latest review of Rick Reed's Out on The Net, and give her a big welcome.

-------------------

And last, but not least, after years... and I mean years (I love to exaggerate) of whining about Twitter, I've opened an account! I don't know what the heck I'm doing with it or how to use the darn thing, except that I know you follow people and they follow you.

My schedule is such that I don't seem to have the time to visit all my friends as often as I used to (boooh on that), and I'm looking for some interesting book discussions. I remember reading somewhere that in Twitter there are such things happening. However, I've yet to find them. :( I know... I know... I don't know what I'm doing yet. I find that I'm reluctant to just hit that "Follow" button on all and sundry and feel as if I'm intruding on other people except on those who I know will welcome seeing my name (at least I think so, lol), so maybe I just don't get it yet.

Anyway, that's my Twitter story. I need to be pointed in the right direction to find some of those great book discussions, so if you have some advice... give it up.

And now on to choose some books to read this weekend!

  1. Happy Easter! Happy Earth Day!

I'm still not ready for the twitter thing... I'm also thinking of giving up the Facebook thing.... we'll see.

I'm planning on starting Eon by Alison Goodman, which is also my Big Book Challenge selection. I'm hearing good things about it, which is nice :)

  2. Happy easter and Earth Day. :P

I had today off too. Let me tell you, I needed it!

I know how you feel about twitter. Right now, that's just another place I lurk. LOL

Hope you have a great weekend and read lots!

  3. I'm not the person for Twitter advice - opening a Goodreads account was enough for me... for now anyway! Curious to see what sort of answers you get though.

And yay for long weekends - or even long eleven-day breaks, which is what a lot of the people here in the UK (myself included) are doing as we have two four-day weekends in a row!

  4. Mariana, same to you! Hope you have a great Easter with your family!

LOL on Twitter... I know what you mean. ;P It's easy to access on the phone app when you don't have time for anything else, and have a few minutes to look up recommendations, etc... but, I still don't know what I'm doing with it! I've also heard great things about Eon, hope you enjoy that book!

Ames, Happy Easter to you... and yay for Earth Day! Ohhh I needed a 3 day weekend too! It was one of those weeks for me too. :( We'll lurk together on Twitter, lol!

Li, so far no answers on Twitter, lol! And sigh... we need more long weekends, right? Enjoy your days off!

  5. Hi Hils,
Happy Earth Day & Happy Easter to you and your family, too. xo

I've been on Twitter since July 2008, I think, but I've only tweeted about 1800+ times. That may sound like a lot, but others who joined around the same time as me are up to 20-30K. Yes... as in 30,000 tweets! I actually lurk there more than I tweet. And when I do tweet... I try to make it count and be something meaningful. I follow mostly book blogging people, authors and publishers, but also some fitness people some cooking-food blog people, and a bunch of news sources. Oh, plus some astronauts. I just love seeing pictures of the earth tweeted from space. LOL. I looked for you, by the way, but couldn't find you. Can you follow me so I can find you?

Hope you're having a great weekend. We really need to meet up soon. We keep saying that, but we never get a date on the calendar!!!!
    xo

  6. Happy Easter, Christine! Thanks for the information on Twitter, it helps to know how you use it. I clicked on your account and now follow you. :D Names being different on twitter don't help! Someone is already using mine, so I had to change it...

I hope we meet up soon too! RL has gotten hectic for all of us. :( Maybe during the summer with the good weather it will be easier.

    XO

  11. Hils,

I should be flogged! I did not see your post until just now. *Hides face in shame*

I have been off the internets so to speak since before Easter weekend (we traveled to Mom's) and since getting back home have been plagued with major migraines and when not in pain RL work once again gobbled me up.

Thank you so very much for the shout out re: Indie Reviews. You are an absolute sweet heart and as I mentioned I should be flogged!!! LOL

I did get a visit from Lily and ames which was great! So thanks again for the pimping - LOL.

I have a number of reviews in the works and hope to be posting again real soon - now that I can focus my eyes on the computer screen without pain.

What is your Twitter address? You can find me on Twitter at Indigene_1.

  12. Indi, no flogging allowed! LOL!

I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. :( I hope your migraines are better now and that RL and work will let you breath! I feel your pain on both counts.

I also hope you had a great Easter with your Mom. :)

I'm loving your blog and look forward to your new reviews. :D I'll look you up on Twitter (couldn't find you under Indigene). I'm under HilciaJSu. I'm still just lurking when I find the time, lol!
