Review: Absolutely, Positively (Lucy Valentine, Book 3) by Heather Webber

“Exposed” by a Boston Herald reporter, Lucy is suddenly the talk of the town. Long back-story short: Even though the rest of her Valentine ancestors were blessed by Cupid with psychic abilities, Lucy’s only special power lies in her ability to find things. This skill has proven quite a blessing for those who come to her matchmaking agency in search of finding their long-lost loves. Now that Lucy’s secret is out, she has more new clients than she knows what to do with. But soon a certain man of mystery steals Lucy’s spotlight…

No, it’s not Sean Donahue, the sexy fireman-turned-private-eye who’s stolen Lucy’s heart. It’s a masked man in a cowboy hat, dubbed “The Lone Ranger,” who’s been throwing handfuls of cash across the Common. Now all of Beantown’s abuzz. Can Lucy unmask the mysterious money man, track down all her clients’ old flames, and turn up the heat on her love life? Absolutely, positively…
In Absolutely, Positively, Heather Webber again throws Lucy Valentine into quite a few different adventures. In this book, together with her sexy PI boyfriend Sean Donahue, she investigates one disappearance and one lost love. Of course, she's also curious about the identity of The Lone Ranger, a masked man who's throwing cash around -- literally -- across the Common. And, her personal life is further complicated by friends and changes in the family structure.

Webber took it up a notch with this book. Absolutely. There is a sense of real danger to the lost love story that gives it a sense of excitement. It stops having the awww... factor, when it becomes apparent that it involves ex-foster parents, troubled youngsters, an ex-con, the FBI and a murder. This is also true of the case involving the disappearance of an old artist. A case that turns out to have an interesting, if convoluted, happy ending.

I really like the way Webber is developing Lucy and Sean's relationship. They continue to work on it in Absolutely, Positively and yes, it does go forward with sexy, joyful and scary moments. If only they didn't have so many interruptions! Sean is just lovely and I like the way Lucy thinks. The secondary characters truly make this series what it is by providing the snappy dialogue and showcasing Lucy's personality in other venues besides the obvious.

This series is just getting better, and so far Absolutely, Positively is definitely my favorite. These are light, fun mysteries full of wonderful characters, dialogue and situations. I recommend that the books be read in order to enjoy the progression in the relationship between Lucy, Sean and the rest of the crew.

  3. I've seen this series around a lot but the covers just throw me off from picking them up. For some weird reason, my mind keeps thinking that this is chicklit not contemp because of the cover. Am I being too shallow? Missing out much? lol. I will download samples of the book because Hilcia recommended it. :)

  4. Alex, it's fun! Enjoy. Hope you had a great V-Day too! :D

Leslie, isn't this a fun? Wait till you read the other books, the series just gets better. :)

Tabitha, I know what you mean! It took me a while to pick them up too. But I took the chance and it was worth it for me. They're fun and fluffy and just what I needed for a relaxing light read. They ARE a bit chick lit(ty), but not too obviously so. I hope you enjoy them too. :D

  5. I actually think the covers are cute and fun, they really convey the tone of the series imo.

I think you should give it a try, Tabs! :)

Ahhh, Hils! You beat me to it!! Sigh, I just have too many books to review and I'm trying to catch up on last month. How sad?

I really enjoyed this one as well. I don't know if it was my favorite though... there was one thing that bothered me and that was about the case with the foster kids. How Lucy kept the info from the girl, for her own good. I know Lucy's intentions were good, but that bothered me a little. Otherwise, the book was great ;)

    LOL, the couch!!!

  6. Nath, I agree about the covers, I like them too. :D

Nath, you've been reading so much and reviewing too... Me? I'm behind on everything. :( And I had to do Lucy V. for Valentine's Day! *g*

Oh, I'm so glad you liked this book too! I know what you mean about Lucy and the girl... hmm... it bugged me too. But, I knew she was going to realize her mistake by the end. I think I just loved the way the mysteries worked along with the personal storylines in this one. I just think the series gets better with every book. :D

And YEAH, HUGE LOL on the couch!!!

  7. Hiya Hilcia,
I started reading Deeply, Desperately the other day, but then I went and borrowed Crusie's Bet Me from the library and thought I'd read a page or two and then was hooked! So I'll get back to Lucy Valentine afterwards. LOL. So glad you enjoyed this series. I'm not so sure Ms. Webber is contracted to write more books in this series... that would be unfortunate, right? Hmm.. I need to look into that.

  8. ohhh, I didn't even do the connection between Lucy V and Valentine's Day ^_^;

I'm reading but not reviewing that much ^_^; Or not as much as I wished. I'm going to email you this week-end... it's been a while!

  9. Hiya, Christine!

I can't blame you for putting Webber on hold for Bet Me! LOL! But, yeah... this is a great series and I'm enjoying it. It would be really sad if this series would stop at this point since it's just getting better. Let's hope Webber gets contracted for more books!

Nath, LOL, Valentines! I only got it because I read the book and had part of the review written. :D

Send me an email! I miss you!
