October 2009 Reads

I had an excellent reading month. A few new releases made it to my list, but this month I was able to hit the old TBR pile and made a small dent. I read some excellent books, plenty of good ones, and had only one real disappointment. I also had the chance to re-read four of my old M/M favorites -- that was fun. As you can see by this month's list, I'm way behind on my reviews, but I'll try to bring you up to date with a couple of Mini-Impression posts next week.

My favorite reads this month were: McKenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard, one of her old category romances -- this book is a keeper for me. Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase, a historical romance I've had on my TBR for a long time and could never find the right time to read, and Tabula Rasa by Tori Temple a wonderful contemporary M/M cowboy romance.

  1. Awww, love your list, Hils!! :D I mean, it's sooo long! It's been a while since I read 20 books in a month. Sigh.

Oh, I want to know what you thought of the Joy Nash. I've seen the cover over and over again and I'm tempted!! :D

Oh, you read Untouchable too? I plan to review it soon.

  2. Holy smokes that's a long list! I finished my 6th read of the month last night just minutes before midnight.

I'm glad you liked Lord of Scoundrels. I'm hoping to read it in the next week or so as I'll need to return it to the library soon.

  3. Great list Hils! I'm curious to hear what you thought of the Kresley Cole novella. I wasn't crazy about her last book but I have been looking forward to Danii and Murdoch's story. :)

  4. Nath: Thank you. It's been quite a while since I broke the 20 book mark too. Staying at home helped, lol! I'm back at work, so I've slowed down again. :)

I'll be writing a few words on the Joy Nash book soon, Nath, and then if you want it, I can pass in on to you. :)

Christine: You and I, the last girls in the neighborhood to read Lord of Scoundrels, lol! I can't to read your thoughts on it. :)

Leslie: Thanks. I hit my TBR pile. :) Kresley Cole is still one of the few PNR authors I'm still reading. I'm actually waiting impatiently for the next full length book. :)

  5. Wow great list. Ok, I have to ask how you liked Tin Star and Broken H. I didn't love Broken H and at the time had no idea that the Tin Star was first in the series. I've since gotten TS but have yet to read it. Tell me what you thought.

And holy cow you read The Assignment, what did you think?

Lord of Scoundrels - love that book. Chase has such a way with words!

  6. Tracy, The Tin Star and The Assignment were my first EVER M/M reads. I followed them with The Broken H and Out of My Mind. So those 4 were my first M/M reads. You can only imagine my reaction, lol! It was great going back and re-reading them after all this time.

I never really reviewed these... I'll be writing a few impressions on them, as I see them now. I do think that reading The Tin Star first gave me a different perspective on The Broken H. :)

FYI, The Assignment broke my M/M erotica cherry, LOL! That alone makes it a favorite.
